the pilot.

Recently came across this thought from my last trip down to the States. It's a good reminder for me...

Flying high above the clouds.
Can't see ahead, behind or to the sides.
Fog surrounds.
And yet the plane cuts through.

How any times have I felt like this is my life being lived out?

Walking, moving and stepping out. Going forward, but uncertain of what I've left behind, and unaware of what's ahead.

The plane is approaching its destination. It flies towards the ground. The fog dissipates and earth peeks through. More clarity in a few seconds then the past hour long flight.

Gliding to earth... Towards the destination. We are right on track.
We know where we are going and where we will end up.

So how do we stay confident in the fog of life?
When we find ourselves trying to determine if we on the right track or on any track at all. Unaware of what's beyond the fog or when we will get a sneak peek at our destination.

The journey seems to be more enjoyable when we see the sun shine peering through the clouds or watch from above the earth below.

It's difficult to trust the pilot when you can't even tell the direction your going. But the pilot knows. He knows what's best for us and our journey.

We may even experience some turbulence that can even make our stomache drop. But the pilot knows the direction and he knows the destination. He stays a course.

Jesus knows the destination. He knows how to work the controls. His job is to take us where we need to go. Sometimes, he is the only one who knows. We need to trust him. We need to enjoy the ride. And trust that he will get us to where he has called us.

Maybe he takes us on a different route then we thought, because there are obstacles ahead that won't benefit us... Sometimes we head on through the storm because he knows we will grow deeper in him through the wind and the rain. We cling to him to steer us through. We know we are helpless and he is our hero.

Little buildings are coming into view. Tiny cars too. You can see a bigger picture from up here. Looking back you see where you come from. It's calmer and more peaceful soaring through the sky. Moving forward has it's fears but also some incredible views.

Coming in for landing.
Just touched ground.
It was smooth. We made it.
Back to the normality and earthly perspective.
